Comment on the exhibition

I liked the museum about the photografie and american beauties. It showed a lot of different ways people experienced New York and demonstrated how people can end up living there. To me it was a different kind of art that I have not experienced before, though it was very interesting. The presentation that impressed me the most was the slide show of Nan Golden, because to me it seemed like anyone would be able to put pictures like those together. But I guess if you have a closer look it is real art she did. Still I think it would be fun trying to do the same, maybe only about a couple of weeks, to get a better understanding for the work Nan Golden did.

Comment on Mr. Effing

December 17, 2007 by brusi

I think that Mr Effing in a good man. Mrs Hume said in the story that he´s a little weird and I think that is a reason for the reader to justify his behavior in the story. He´s lonely and old and he lost a good friend of his recently. He´s is not bad, he has just a strange way of showing what he wants. Effing wants people to feel like he´s unpredictable and maybe even scare them a little. But that all does not mean he´s a bad person. He has good sides, which we pointed out in our last lesson. He shows a rough crust with a weak seed. He wants people to think that he´s scary and strong, which he is, but inside of him he is a good person with good characters that are indeed pointed out in “Moon Palace”

Black Eyed Peas “Where is the Love”

September 26, 2007 by brusi

Question Mark, WITLMalte, Tim, Felix and I are going to present the song “Where is the love” next class.

The Songtext:

What’s wrong with the world, mama
People livin’ like they ain’t got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that’ll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin’
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you’re bound to get irate (yeah)
Badness is what you demonstrate
And that’s exactly how a n**** works and operates
N****, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y’all (y’all)

People killin’, people dyin’
Children hurt and you hear them cryin’
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek
Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
‘Cause people got me, got me questionin’
Where is the love (Love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

It just ain’t the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don’t belong
Nations droppin’ bombs
Chemical gasses fillin’ lungs of little ones
With the ongoin’ sufferin’ as the youth die young
So ask yourself is the lovin’ really gone
So I could ask myself really what is goin’ wrong
In this world that we livin’ in, people keep on givin’in
Makin’ wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin’ each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin’ on but the reason’s undercover
The truth is kept secret, it’s swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where’s the love, y’all, come on (I don’t know)
Where’s the truth, y’all, come on (I don’t know)
Where’s the love, y’all

People killin’, people dyin’
Children hurt and you hear them cryin’
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek
Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
‘Cause people got me, got me questionin’
Where is the love (Love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I’m gettin’ older, y’all, people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin’
Selfishness got us followin’ our own direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids act like what they see in the cinema
Yo, whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness in equality
Instead in spreading love we spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity
That’s the reason why sometimes I’m feelin’ under
That’s the reason why sometimes I’m feelin’ down
There’s no wonder why sometimes I’m feelin’ under
Gotta keep my faith alive to lovers bound

The song mainly is talking about what´s going wrong in the world and especially in America. It´s made clear to the people that what they think the American dream is does not exist. It points out that people are just missing the love, which makes them act the way they do (discrimination, gang fights, terrorism).

It shows how media gives us a wrong idea of the real world and makes us getting used to violence.

It is showing the “American nightmare” much rather than the “American dream” and explains why it just can not exist, because of the facts just mentioned.
